Thanksgiving recipe

I made some sweet potato's to take down to my moms for thanksgiving.  She is on a no sugar diet so I had to be creative and could not go the old fashion route of brown sugar, butter, sweet potatoes, topped with marshmallows.  I had been kicking the idea of maple syrup bacon sweet potato's around in my head for a while and decided to go that route.  I use one large and one medium can of sweet potato's, drained and rinsed, Cary's sugar free low carb maple syrup, a pack of maple breakfast bacon pre cooked ( did this in the oven on a rack so it wouldn't sit in its own fat) and 2/3 of a package of pecans that where pre chopped.
I heated the potato's up in a microwave safe bowl for 4ish minutes on high.  I then used my mixer to whip them, and drizzled about a cup of syrup, I crumble 2/3 of the bacon in, then the pecans reserving a little for topping.  I then moved it over to my dish and topped it with remaining bacon crumbled and pecans.
I did also set aside some "plain" non bacon/pecan sweet potato's in foil cup cake cups for the small kids and babies.  I hope they enjoy this dish.  If you make it I would love to see your pic's!

Little Pigglet Hat

This is a little baby pig aka piglet hat my mom asked me to make a while back.  Miss Jordan my niece is doing her best to sport it in her rebellious way.  I think it might be a bit small on her because her head is larger then the average for babies her age, she is just growing like a weed!  I do so hope she doesnt get to big for the booties I made her by Christmas!!!  If she does I might just have to do a bootie giveaway.

Pumpkin Dog treats EASY

PUMPKIN
Ok so I had half a batch of the last dog treat dough left so I backed it off today!
After making them I wanted to bake up a batch of pumpkin ones, I call these Buddy's butt buddy's.  He has a lot of issues and to help with his butt irritation the vet told us to give him pumpkin so I figure baking up these treats would be a good way to dose him with out having a open can of pumpkin sitting in the frig for days.
Recpie is simple and I made it after looking at a ton of treat recpies that all seemed complicated when i just wanted something easy to mix up.  The tray of treats up top was only baked 15 minutes the one below was closer to 20-25 minutes.

Buddy's buddy treats
1 cup oat flour
1 cup rice flower
1 can pumkin (12oz)
1 medium egg  (if you only have large just add a able spoon more of each flour)
Mix all, roll out. Thinner will be more crunchy, thicker will have a softer center like a scone.  Bake at 350 for 15 to 25 minutes depending on how crunchy or soft you want them to be.

The ever unfinished Fab Four.  For my mom.  I super suck at wire bending but I did my best to make glasses, and now they all have noses.  Still on the list to finishing them mouths, belts, jacket buttons, and ties.  Still fighting with myself over if I should make interments or not, and if I do should i make just the guitars or do I then have to make Ringo a drum set?

Here is what I am working on right now for my husband.  Any Doctor who fan's out there should know what this is with out an explanation, but for the non-whooviens I will explain.

There is this awesome British tv show called Doctor Who, its about a space and time traveling alien called simply called the Doctor, so you will offend hear people saying 'Doctor who?' when he is introduced.  One of his greatest enemy's are the Dalek's a race that the doctor at one point thought he killed off for the greater good of the universe.  This little crochet creation is going to be an old school version of the Dalek.  I still have a few rounds to go before I can stuff and put a bottom on him then work on his extremity's.  I think they will be the hardest parts to recreate.  He is going to be stuffed, but if the hubby likes him I might make an other  that he can use as a dice bag for all his gaming dice.

And last but by far not the leaset.  The project that gave me the MOST issues.  Probably because I was working on it while I had really bad vertigo.

The gift for my sister Christines birthday which is coming up on turkey day.  This is the project I had to keep unraveling because it just would NOT work up right.  I hope she loves it because it was one of the crochet items she had on her Pintrest list, and at that time I thought it would be the only thing I would be able to work up while the world was spinning around me *vertigo was bad*  I just cant believe how much trouble it gave me!!

Dog bed update

Well I finally finished and stuffed pillows in both! Funny thing was while there was only one new pillow nether dog wanted to lay on it the both wanted to be on the new one.
Here is Chloe our black and white boxer mix and Buddy our beagle testing them out.  They seem to like them!

Crochet felt doggy beds

Well as the title states, I am working on making two felt dog beds.  But since they are for the dogs I didn't want to have knotted fringe in case one of them *Chloe* decides to eat yet an other dog bed.  So I went and picked out some felt just so happens to match the same felt my sister made a throw cover out of as a Christmas gift a few years back.  Top side is a menagerie of dog breeds  while the bottom is black with white paw prints, I cut the 'fringe' shorter then you would for knot's and just folded over each fringe and put a small slit threw it to use as the loops for crocheting.  I just crochet a top to a bottom then working counter clockwise crochet back into a top then bottom and repeated till there was only one friend left, I cut that one in two and slid one half into the first loop hole and the other into the last and knotted it off.  It was hard making it becauce the only space big enough is the living room floor and the dogs think if your on the floor you want to play with them.  I hope they enjoy these beds.  Oh also it's just stuffed with two cheap $2.50 pillows, I made a small slit on the bottom going short ways to tuck them in sort of like an old school pillow case.

I used 1 yard of the doggie print and 1 yard of the paw print and 4 pillows to make two dog beds.... while technically only one is finished but the other will be done soon.  And if you want to do the crochet edges but dont have a hook just make the hole's a big wider and use your fingers to pull each fringe threw the others.

I like how these came out so much that I think I might try to make couch pillows out of felt with this crochet edging!!

Doggie treats!

I baked some dog treats for the first time today.  The recipe I fallowed didn't work up like it described so I wound up winging it.  I call these pizza bones.  They are made from rice and oat flour with garlic, oregano, rosemary, ect.  I had planed on making a plain batch that I could separate to make lots of different flavors but the dough recipe came out way to dry to work with all the ideas I had so I just went with the one we thought the dog would really like.
And the dogs love them. They both had one and the just stair' at me for 20 minutes solid till I gave them an other.

One of those days...

Have you ever had one of those days when for some reason you just couldn't do the most simple task?  The last few days have been like that for me.  I am working on an other birthday gift this one for my sister, that is coming up sooner then my moms and I get about 2000 to 3000 stitches in and have to unravel the WHOLE thing because I just cant seem to do the most basic shaping correctly. The first time it went all wobbly so I just assumed i over increased but I didn't see that when I unraveled.  Second time even though I wasn't increasing the shape was increasing.....  I have re-work this first 2K/3K about four times now and I think I have finally got it!!  Still need a few more rows before I can tell if it is going to look right *sigh*.  She better love it when its finished.

Maybe I have just being crocheting to much and need a 24 brake?

Speaking of the Beatles dolls..... I have kind of put them out of sight and forgot about them >.> now I am dreading going over the to nose/mouth or not to nose/mouth question.

Finished Boots for Miss Jordan!!

I was out and about today.  Can  you believe that Michel's craft store doesn't carry buttons? I walked the whole store 3 times and no employees even asked if I needed help until I was walking out the door.
 Wound up going to four stores before I found the perfic buttons to finish off Miss Jordans Boots.  But the good news is I now know of a good strip mall that has 3 stores in it all related to sewing and crafts they are called Kirkwood Knittery, The Right Fit, and Sew it Seams. Just after the intersection of N Kirkwood Rd and Manchester (10724 Manchester Rd, St Louis, MO 63122)  I got these buttons from Sew it Seams for only $2.08!!
 They are heart shaped thin pieces of shell that feel as light as a feather and have a beautiful pearl like shimmer to them.  BTW the color in the close up is the accurate color of the yarn for some reason my camera makes it look more yellow then it really is unless I am right one top of what ever I am shooting.

Oh if only I was rich.... I would have bought so much stuff from each of them, they all had items I wanted but I have no current need/use/money for.

Eeek now that these are finished I have to go back to my Beatles delema -.-

Sneak Peak 97% Finished

I thought I would post a peak at how the boot is going.
This one should be the left boot it still needs some finishing touches like the button closure and weaving in some tails.  I need to get someone to model these for me in better lighting my dark little corner does not do them justice, then again neither does my cell phone camera.

Now I am off to decode my scribbles so I can rewrite them for a right boot!!

New Project WIP- Kicking boots for Jordan!

 I know I said I wouldnt start on an other personal project untill I finished 'The Beatles' but.... come on these are gonna be so cute when they're finished!!

I am writing the pattern as I go so when I make the second one it will look the same.  Working with 'Love this Yarn' in toasted almond.

So far I have the base of the boot finished just have to make the wrap-a-round boot leg.

If these do not fit Miss Jordan I will probably throw them up for sale before trying to make an other pair so I can purchase more yarn!!

This boot is approximately 4 1/4 to 4 1/2 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide (at the toe, the heel is about 2in) the ankle circumference is roughly 6 inches round and is stretchy enough to adjust for a wider foot/ankle.

When they are finished they will wrap around the ankle and button shut.  They should be easy enough to slide on and off without having to unbutton but just in case the options will be nice if you need to put them on over bulky or frilly socks.

The Beatles WIP... or is it?

I am not sure if this is how I am going to leave them. I have an idea for nose's but if I do that idea there will not be room for a mouth.  So the biggest questions weighing on my mind right now is to nose or not to nose, to mouth or not to mouth or go with it as is.  I have a ton of tiny details i want to do but multiplet it by 4 and I feel like its to much work and might make it look over worked.  My only other concern is do I need to put glasses on one of them?  And if so which one?!!?  Left to right who I tried to make them look like--- The guy who married the asain lady, the one I can never rember, Paul, Ringo.

Things I want to make but think will make them look even more bulky then they already are--
Ties,  betls, fingers and thumbs which I know would not turn out well, a guitar, bass, a mic and some sort of drum set with sticks, mouth, noses, ears.... I think I am goiong to stop my ramblings here.

What do you think, should I attempt nose's and mouths or just do one or the other or neither?

More Chibi Cthulhu''s

After my last round of chibis cthulhu's sold so quickly out at Animeggroll I decided to make a few more.  Since their anniversary is coming up this weekend they will be having a party out at the store as well as raffling off prizes and screening an anime.

I went with a green one which is my fallback 'safe' color and a orange one.  I do think if  I made a white coat for the orange one it might just look like a Zodberg what do you think?

I think I need to adjust my pattern for it again, original I was working it in two pieces then adding the tenticals and arms.  Now I am trying out a new  way of working it all in one so there is less to having to sew together which is less wasted yarn.  I think I need to make the bottom half a few rows longer and when I stuff I need to find a way to weight the bottom because these guys fall over to easy.  Nothing like standing in the middle of the store poking a chibi cthulhu in the butt to make it stand up straight!

*Sigh* Me and my impulse buying >,> instead of waiting for the great discount prices during their party this weekend I saw some Fairy Tail pins and I had to buy them so no one else could have them.

If your a St Louis local please stop by Animeggroll this weekend @ 9254 Watson Road, Crestwood Mo, 63126  Its just across from the old Crestwood mall it shares a parking lot with Aldi's and Zen.

~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATE ~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow in just one night the green Chibi Cthulhu already sold!  It makes me happy to know people enjoy them!!
Bookmarks and procrastination
I don't know about you, but it seems like I horde bookmarks.   I am going threw my list trying to organize them and I have no idea what half of them where marked fore.   >.<
I seem to have bookmarked a lot of crochet sites that sadly no longer exist so I think know if I see a pattern I like instead of bookmarking it I need to download or copy it even if I don't think I will make it right away.
I am using my bookmark mess as a excuse to procrastinate working on the Beatles dolls, the farther along I get with them the more and more I dislike how they are turning out.  I told myself that I can not start on an other personal project till I finish them.  So I am putting off making a Christmas present for my niece and other birthday's related gifts.
I just hope I don't forget what I want to make her I have a cute idea for crochet boots.  I saw a few on pin crest but they where $35 so I thought to myself why not just make up a pattern myself.  It cant be to hard I already made a baby flip flop pattern I could use that as my base and work up from there.
Hush hush birthday gift for mom WIP
I finnaly got the blank dolls done!  I just need to make them wigs still need to decide if I want to do it out of yarn or felt.  I have to pick which one is going to get what color jacket.  Was thinking of doing Dark blue for George, Red on Ringo, Green or Yellow for John, and Light blue for Paul.  Still have alot of work to go they are only about half finished.  I got to make belts, ties, hands, sleaves with shirt cuffs, jacket, jacket collar, shirt collars, and finaly finish up the faces with eyes and noses and mouths!!
Egads now that I wrote it all out that's a lot of work.  If your wondering I made the pattern up for these dolls as I went along.  If enough interest is shown for the finished item I might type it out and put it up for sale for like $1 or just charge $60 for the four of them if you want me to do all the work!
So the last time I saw my niece she was captivated by the bottle of orange soda I was drinking.  Her eyes light up and fallowed it when ever it was in her line of sight.  So I am convened for right now her favorite color is Orange!!  So I made her a bright orange octojelly with triangle eyes to give it a Halloween theme.  Once again my camera from my cell phone does the color no justice.   The main body has been finished for a while I just didnt felt eyes on till today because I am lazy, and I knew my sis wouldnt be coming over any time soon to get it.
Abandoned Amigurumi Commisions
So I have had a few of these guys just sitting around.  Its one of those situations where someone asked me to make them an item and we talked about it and then I made it and shot them pictures and they said they loved it.  I got back with each commissioner with in the week, and a 2 week check up as well but now I have had some of these items since May >.<
 Only one person ever got back to me about 2 months later to get one of the Chibi Cthulhu's but these guys all seem to have been abandoned.  Which upsets me, I love making them, and I love the reactions when the people actually get them even more.
I am giving notice and at the end of the day (6 or7 central time) they will be up for sale to whom ever wants to give one of these critters a new home.
Pictured here left to right:  White Llama, Chibi Pink Luvulhu (a love cthulhu), Blue octo, Chibi Green Cthulhu, and a Turkish Van Kittie Kat with a white bow/collar.    All but the llama are sporting plastic safty eyes that are child safe, the llama has black felt eyes, felted on which are also child safe.
I am asking $10+$5S&H (Inside the continent of US) or if you are over seas or in Hawaii or Alaska the S&H will very as it cost more in postage I would have to get it calculated for anyone who requests a S&H quote outside of the 48 land locked states (S&H covers the cost of the postage and the packaging)    If your local (STL) and willing to meet to pick the item up S&H is waived!
Oh I am also making bento box straps for AnimEggRoll you can see my first trail one in the picture  above for now they are just a simple yellow ribbon strap with a velcro clasp.   My trail one has worked well so far so I am going to make a few more to take over to the store with all the abandoned critters.  Do not worry if someone wants one of these tiny lovable creatures I can always pick it up from the store for you if it hasn't sold.  If your a St Louis Missouri local you can always swing by the shop and check out these guys in person!
A little about the safety eyes I use.  They are plastic and have a 'shanked stem' on the 'eye' so when the 'washer' or the backing is attached to it from the inside of the toy it secures the eye in place.  Once the washer is attached to the shank it can not be removed with out a lot of force or a tool being used.  Short of cutting the shank with wire cutters or cutting up the toy itself the eyes should never fall out.  I always double and triple check before stuffing that the eyes are properly secured.
*UPDATE*  Both Cthulhu's have found new forever homes!!
Mizzou themed Girl hat
Finally finished working on this one.  I wasn't sure how I was going to do the girls hat and still keep it girly and not looking like a bumble bee in the gold and black.  I thought I might do kitties ears and strips but as i was getting into the 3rd round of strip's I realized it looked to much like a bee theme and unraveled it all.
So its a  pretty basic hat with a black stripe at the bottom with a twisted edge stitch.  I made three different sized little daisy chain flowers with a pearl embellishment.
I am not sure if the edging I did has a real name I just came up with it when I set my work down and come back and realized about 3 stitches in one of them  looked wrong.  Apparently my hook got twisted around and I had not noticed it but it made for a cute edging.
Mizzou Tigers Baby hat
Front View
A friend wanted to know if I could make her two baby hat's with the Mizzou Tigers colors and theam one for a boy and the other for a girl.
So here is the boy version a basic 12in baby hat with ear flaps in gold and black.  I tried to make this one look like a foot ball helmet with a tiger logo on one side and the Mizzou 'M' on the other.
Left Side
Right Side
Back
I am not yet sure what I will do for the girls hat.  Maybe a cute shell stitch with a big gold and black flower with the tiger in the middle of the flower?
Irish crochet cord bracelet
I got this stunning hand made glass bead today, a friend Karla keeps inviting me to come to the jewelry conventions she sells at.  I bought a few things while there but I couldn't pass this up.  Its got tiny crystals inside of it that add a little more sparkle and I knew it would be perfect for this bracelet.  My camera did no justice to the colors but its a shimmering rich purple with a river of silver blue and a few sparkling peek-a-boo crystals.
She also had a tiny bat that I was in love with but only one and I don't know what I would have done with one, but two I would make into earrings.  Check out her site @ studiosolana.com
I feel this bracelet is finished. just need to polish up the clasp wrap it and remember who it is for.
WIP First of 4
This is the first of four blanks.  I know so little about the Beatles I am unsure of where to progress from here.  White shirt, black pants, gray shoes, but what color jacket for which one I havent figured out yet.  I could do grey or black for them all or they can all have there own color.
 I am also still unsure about what to do about their hair and whether or not to do facial hair.  I know they have all had mustaches or beards at one point in time but I want to try and keep them looking like they are from the same year.  Dithering over if I should try to do yarn hair or go out and get some felt and make it felted hair, I do know if I go the facial hair it will be felt as yarn would be bulky and probably ugly.
If anyone has suggestions for jacket colors or opinion on facial hair feel free to comment I will appreciate any input form someone who knows anything more about The Beatles then me.  Shamefully I don't even know all there names I only know three >.>Paul my moms first love, Lennon, and Ringo.  I know i should know the fourth's name because I have been scouring the internet for pictures of them to base the dolls off of but that forth one just keeps falling out of my head.
If it helps any my mom use to have her walls plastered from top to bottom with every poster that could be easily bought while we where growing up.  I think her favorite is a mirror with profile shots of there faces in shadow and there autographs but I cant seem to find an photo of it.
Here is the basic part of the bracelet I am working on as well.  I still have to figure out what I want to add to it.  If I want to do crochet Irish flowers or some other Irish pattern.
Irish Crochet and Birthdays
There will be a round of birthdays coming up in my family before the end of the year.  I had what I thought was the perfect gift picked out for one of them only to be foiled by third party company's buying them all up to resell at 5 times there original cost.   So I have moved onto my next idea-- Crochet them something.
I am not sure how my fab four aka The Beatles will turn out but I am going to give them a go for my mom, but as a back up plan I am working on an Irish crochet inspired necklaces or bracelet.
I have already made my mom a Yellow Submarine for her birthday last year as well as a Paul McCartney, unfortunately I didn't write down the patter  I made up to make Paul and I did promise to make her the other boys so I am going to have to remake them all from scratch.  At least this time I will have a better idea of what I am doing.
I am still trying to think of what I should do for my older sister, I have already over the years made for her a few scarfs and wrist warming fingerless gloves.  I cant mention any ideas I might have for her either because I am sure she will stumble across this post at some point.
I will post pictures of some ideas as I work on them.  I am sure most will flop in the beginning prepossesses because my inspiration right now is a complex Irish Crochet pattern that I don't have the pattern for just images.
My Neice enjoying some of the crochet toys I made
Little Miss Jordan and all her toys.
I have made a lot of toys for my neice over the past few months. By far her favorits are the Octo-Jelly's so its rare to get pictures of her playing with the others but her daddy managed to catch a few shots. Her she is seen playing with a little blue elephant while her newest toy the Panda Bear watches from her lap. I have been asking her mom to get shots of her playing with the elephant and she told me every time she hands it to her she acts like it has offended her so I am happy to see her enjoying it.
Here is a bigger shot of the elephant she is holding. When I was making it I was half temped to add a rattle like toy to its head so it would make some noise to drive them crazy but then I rethought that idea and went the safer rout of no rattle.
It was bound to happen though, she threw the elephant away in favor of her Panda Bear.
I think she is trying to tell her daddy something.  Maybe its- "I want more Chinese food none of that mush you call baby food." While nomming on her pandas leg.
 It has a cursive J monogrammed into its shirt  for Jordan.  I didn't make a mouth because it would leave loose strands of yarn or embroidery thread that she might get her tiny fingers tangled in or even figure out how to rip them out.   I felted on the eye patches and the nose.
And here she is with her favorite toy the Octo-Jelly. She seems to love squeezing their heads and pulling on their streatchy spiral legs. Last time I got to visit with her when I gave her the panda she seemed more impressed with my bright orange soda then anything else, so I made her a bright orange Octo-Jelly that still needs me to felt eyes onto it before I can give it to her.
Lastly here she is sporting the Bunny/Lamb hat I made for her, the ears depending on how you posistion them will make it look like a Bunny if they are upright or if you pull them stright down they have a cute little Lamb appeal to them.
Oh just a side note, if you wash a knit or crochet item NEVER put it in the dryer it will shrink!! If that happens just soak the item in some warm water with soap, rinse with warm water roll in a dry towel to get out most of the wet, then use a piece of cardboard cut to the side you want to stretch it out to the size you need it to be and let it air dry. Toys on the other hand should do just fine if they shrink up a little its not as big a deal because you don’t wear them.
Crochet Jack-o-lantern
I have been working on this guy all afternoon.  I just couldn't get the mouth to go on well sadly.  Its suppose to look like it has little vamp teeth in its grin but when I felted it onto the pumpkin they shrunk more then I thought.  He is about 3in wide and 1 1/2in tall.  I think I will eventually get around to making him a ghost friend, I have an idea I am playing with just have to figure  out how to make it work.
How to make amigurumi Octopus Tutorial
So my niece Jordan who gets a lot of my creations absolutely loves my Octo-Jelly's  as they call them.  She is 6 or 7~ish months old (BAD auntie for not knowing) and her mom had to ask me to make her some more because when they take it away to wash it she apparently gets very upset.
I made a Tutorial on deviant art when I first started making them, but I have improved on it or at least made it easier on me to make them in one whole piece.
This little octo amigurumi is probably the easiest to start off with if you have never crochet in the round before.  It simply is a ball, with spirals attached if you fallow the tutorial I made earlier.  The adjustment I made to make it easier is incorporating the spirals into the ball.  On the first decrease row after each decrease (you work the decrease and pull the loop threw three loops) I would chain a length about 22 ch and put 2 DC in each stitch up or more depending on how tight you want to make the spiral part of the whole body then sc into the next st fallowing the pattern for dec and sc's.  Then on the next round the decrease should fall right at the spirals so you just pick up a stitch on either side of it and decrease.  Working it this way will leave you with 6 legs, but you can always adjust the pattern to fit in 2 more I just prefer it this way as the spacing with the decreases works out looking cleaner.
Feel free to use my pattern and give credit to me but DO NOT claim it as your own or sell it if you want to give it to someone link back to here or my DA please.  I ask if you want to sell anything made with my pattern please donate part of your profits to a local No-Kill Shelter or Animal Rescue group even just $.30 will feed a hungry animal for a day. Not necessary but its a kindness I pay forward by not charging for the pattern.
Below are some of my Octo-Jelly's I have made.
