Want your own Faux Fox? [Pattern]

crochetcreationsbysara.blogspot.comFaux Fox Stole my Heart.

I used a bulky yarn for this, two brands because neither brand had all the colors I wanted.
Orange-Lion Brand Thick and Quick Wool Ease (3 1/2 skeins)
Black & White (technically its silver >.>)- Loops and Threads Cozy Wool ( less then 1/4 a skein each)
Worked up with a size K hook.
I will be writing in short hand so -o- means do this in Orange, -b- black, -w- white.
My finished scarf (just the body not including the tail or head) is 6ft, you can make yours longer or shorter by adjusting the amount of rows you work for this part. I sugest for a child do 3-4ft, for a teen 4-5, adult 5-6, for crazy fox scarf 6+.
This pattern is a quick clean up of my notes I took when making the scarf so please let me know if something is off so I can fix it.
I just want to say a quick thanks to my handsome model for showing off the scarf for everyone to see, he opted for a bit of anonymity by hiding his face.

Head-

R1- -b- MR sc 6
R2- -w- INC all
R3- -w- sc 2, -o- inc 2, -w- sc 3
R4- -w- inc, sc, -o- sc, inc 2, sc, -w- sc, inc 2
R5- -w- inc, sc, inc, -o- sc 6, -w- inc, sc, inc 3
R6- -w- sc 2, inc, sc 2, -o- sc 2, inc 2, sc 2, -w- sc 2, inc, sc 6
R7-  sc all, white in white, orange in orange
R8- -w- sc 4, -o- sc 12 -w- sc remaining stitchs
R9- -w- sc 3, -o- sc 14, -w- sc remaining
R10-16- -o- sc all

Ears- make 4 (two in white, two in orange)

I suggest making the 2 white first so you can easily assemble them with the orange and not have to cut the yarn then sew the pieces together later.

R1- MR sc 2
R2- SC all
R3- Inc all
R4- SC all
R5- SC all

Holding the white aginst the orange, sc around, putting 2 sc into the bottom corners and 3 into the top.

Eyes- Make 2

I made my eyes by unplying a length of the black yarn, its equivalent to a thin WW.  You can use buttons or safety eyes instead I didnt have any in a size that would work well for me so I just crocheted mine.

MR DC 12, sew onto face, I used some of the scrap white unply'd it and added in the lense flair affect you see on the eyes.

I also take this time to place the ears and sew them on to the head as well.

Legs- Make 4

R1- --b--MR DC 4 --DO NOT JOIN IN ROUND-- this is worked flat, just tighten up the MR and weave the tail into the first row.
R2-3--b- dc all
R4- -b- dc, dec, dc
R5-10- -b-dc all
R 11-16- -o- dc all

Tail-

R1- MR DC 6  -w-
R2- INC, dc 2, around-w-
R3-Inc, dc 3 -w-
R4- Inc 2, dc 3 -w-
R5- Inc, dc 2, inc, dc 3 (repeat around)
R6- Inc 2, dc 2, inc 2, dc 3 (repeat around)
R7-8- dc all -w-
R9-19- dc all -o-  (this should leave you with about a foot and a half of tail worked, if you want a shorter or longer tail work a few more or less rows)
R20- Dc 4, dec -o-  (you may more may not wind up with 3 or 4 dc at the end and no dec that is ok)
R21- DC all -o-
R22- DC 3, dec -o-
R23- DC all
R24- Dc 2, dec -o-
 R25- SC -o-

FO with long tail for sewing into the end of the scarf.

Body - Make this as long or short as you want, I worked my body to 6ft so on me it can be wrapped around 2 or 3 times with both tail and head still sitting in front.

I also assemble as I worked, when I start the body of my scarf I start it by picking up the stitches from the head (working threw both layers), and the front legs.  You do not have to do it this way but it elimitates having to sew on both head and legs.

R1- Work 12 DC along the seam of the head peice (working through the front and back at the same time, as well as the legs on the sides-- IE first 3 stitchs are worked threw 3 layers leg/fhead/bhead; then 6st through just the f/b of the head, then the last 3st are worked threw 3 layers of leg, f/b head)
--If this is to complicated you can chain 14, turn and work 12 DC across the chain (12 ch + 2 ch for turn; turning chain DOES NOT COUNT AS A ST)
R2--till lengh you like-- Chain 2, DC all
I end with a row of SC for sewing my tail and legs into so it wont stretch out and leave big gappy holes on DC.  For extra security I like to sew the legs on first then the tail, and use the tails yarn to go over both of the leg seams as well.

Faux Fox Stole my heart

I whipped this foxxy scarf up in a bulky yarn.   I used a mix of Loops & Threads Cozy Wool (white, and black), and Lion Brand Wool-Ease thick and quick (orange).

I was inspired by the Fox Cowl I made for my niece a while back, I thought a 'fuax' Fox scarf would be a warm and cute addition to my winter gear. The body of the scarf is 6ft, the tail is an additional 2ft making it over 8ft long nose to tail.

This ate up just under 4 skeins of yarn.  3 1/2 in orange, and less then 1/4 of white and black.

If there is intrest I can clean up my notes and write out a pattern later.

Christmas gifts!! (spoilers for family members dont look if you dont want to know)

I am happy with how all of these turned out with the exception of the red slippers.

The yarn selected for them wasn't my favorite the pattern I wrote before my husband picked out the yarn.  It would have been a yarn I would have happily done a hat/scarf but not easy to work with on a detailed pattern with a small hook.

I was going to sew in the applique you see on one of the slippers to both but I was not happy with how  they turned out.  They are supose to look like the  Kansas City Chiefs logo but no matter how many times I tried the arrow head shape it just didn't look right.

I am so happy with how everything else turned out it almost makes me want to scrap the red slippers but I dont have an other yarn the right weight (super bulky) to make them with out making some major adjustments to the pattern.
 From top to bottom--

Infinity Scarf -- done with the basic tunisain stitch with a Q hook.  The yarn was a mystery yarn that was set to me by a very generous Redditer from the r/crochet as part of a Fiber Therapy care package.  I realy love that yarn depending on the lighting you see different shades and colors.  It has dark blues and purples, with felt bobbles in light blues purples and a few sections have tiny tuffs of gold.

Skull Dice Bag-- Gift for one of the people I game with every week

I dub thee BoHo Wrapcity...

I finaly finished this wrap inspired by the one seen on Anne Rowly for my commisionee.

Its roughly 14 inches by 70 inches. I was able to grab some sunlight today to get pictures, I am sharing the best 2 shots, the top on is folded in half, and the bottom is all folded up like an accordion.

Now I can start on my birthday patterns!!  Right after I finished a few Octo's and dragons for Animeggroll's trip to the Japanese Festival

Birthday Gifrt from my Hubby finaly came in!

I finaly got my birthday gift from Wayne in, he gave me a gift card to Knit Picks and I bought some of the items that have been sitting in my 'wish list'.

I got their Turkish spindle, I am slightly disappointed by it, the whorl and bead are both solid wood but the spindle feels like some sort of compressed faux wood that reminds me of those cheap chopsticks.  It was probably done for the weight balancing I will just have to wait till I use it to see how it works, its heavier then the spindle I made out of chopsticks.
That is 100g Sapphire Heather Wool of the Andy's Roving under the spindle.  I cant wait to get my hands into it, but I want to work on my drafting some more so I dont ruin this beautifully soft wool.

As for this lot of yarn, from top left to bottom right:
Eggplant
Cobblestone Heather (also in the3rd row 3rd ball)
Celestial (also in the 3rd row 4th ball)
Grass
Solstice Heather
Lady Slipper
Cornflower
Asphalt Heather
Indigo Healther Tweed
Wellies Heather Tweed

I didnt realize that the two Tweeds where only 50g balls.  They are very small -.-  I had planned on making the Dirk the Dragon Pattern I also got for my birthday in the Indigo but I know there is not enough to even complete the body so I will have to come up with something else.   The other colors will be going into the other pattern I got for my birthday the African Flower Hippo, I plan on cobblestone being my joining round color, outside of that I am not sure which of these other colors I will use, or if I will pull from my stash and save these for something else.

BUT making things for myself will be put on a back burnner because the yarn for a commissioned mixed granny square scarf has come in and I should work on it first.

First run at Tunisian crochet

Front and back comparison
I have dabbled at Tunisian crochet but never found it to my liking with in 4 rows or so.

So what changed my mine, why am I writing up this post?  Simply this, Starlight Tunisian Scarf .

Front
I saw u/SassySSS had worked that pattern up over on r/Chrochet posted some WIP shots of her scarf done up in this pattern with a few tweeks.  I liked the look of it so much so that I went back threw my hooks and decided to try and work it up myself.

I have been hooking this up all weekend when I was at Wizard World Convention, I even talked with a few people who took an interest when they saw me pull it out of my bag on one of my sit down between laps of the con.

The top image shows the front versus the back of the work.  The next image gives a better view of the front of the work.

Working Tunisian Shell row (cast on)
Return Row of the T. Shell(cast off)
For those of you who have not done Tunisian before, its worked a bit like knitting, you need a tunisian or afghan hook like in the images, one that has no thumb rest and a cap at the end to prevent stitches from sliding off the end.  The point to this style hook is because you work a row and as you yo and pull up a loop it gets left on the hook (like with knitting) this is the first part of the row or what I call the cast on part of a row, then you work the return row/cast off row working backwards.  Look at the cast off photo, I simply am doing a - Yo, pull threw two loops- repeat to end.  Onces you find the return your cast on/off is one row of work.

Unlike normal crochet, tuniscian is not worked into the top of a stitch but  threw the middle, normally you would think of this section as the post but its actually more like the top it just has the 2 loops going vertical.

Working Row of TTS (cast on)
This pattern called for 2 stitches, the Tuniscian Shell (TS), and the Tuniscian Twisted Stitch (TTS).  With the twisted stitch, you hold the yarn on the side of the work closest to your body, sort of like when your do the Purle stitch in knitting, to pick up your loop you go threw and grab the veritcal bar farthest from you (see pictuer of WR-TTS CO) by snagging it with the hook so you are twisting the stitch as you pull it forward to do your -YO Pull threw-.  This will creat a little horizontal bar at the base of the stitch in the back, and that wavey bump row on the front of the work.

For the TS, you are working it sort of like unfinished DC Shells, you will start with a *yo on the hook, then go between the 2 vertical stitchs (way easyer then the TTS to explain) yo pull threw, yo and pull threw two loops* (now left with 2 loops on hook) then work the ** two more times in the same vertiacl stitch making sure to leave that last loop on the hook so at the end you would have 4 loops on the hook, then you would sk the next 2 vertical st's and repeat across.

Tuniscian apparently can leave your work looking slanted but a few good tugs and blocking can fix that.  I happen to like the slant in this pattern so when I block to open up the Shells I am going to try and leave it in.

Since I am learning this as I go it seems slow to me, I have roughly just over 3 feet finished since I pulled the hook out on Saturday to knock out a few rows whilst waiting for my Hubby (who is awesome he dropped me off at the door to the convention, and went to park 4 blocks away so I wouldn't have to walk in the windy cold) to get back.  the yarn I am using is one of the Red Heart boutique Unforgettable stuff is so slippery teh labels will not stay on them and I have 3 ball's all in different colorways.

The Convention was a blast, my husband while walking the convention floor looking at all the merchandise actually ran into Eliza Dushku who is one of my favorit actresses (sadly I was off resting my stupid sore feet so I missed it).   We got to have (read hubby payed and wont tell me how much) our picture taken with Matt Smith!!!  Who is actully realy nice, he was doing lots of poses for people who had the forethough to ask and bring props, and he took the time to personly thank every fan who came in to get there photo taken with him.  Also he hugged me I could have just melted then and there he is so sweet.

I also go tot visit my favorit store while at the convention Animeggroll had a booth set up at the contion as well.
