Hearts Inside Shawl [Pattern] *Updated*

This is a bottom up shawl, which makes it easy to size up or down.  This is not an original idea, I am making it from a swatch I found and deconstructed.

The one in the photo is sized for a child, at wides its 8 hearts.  Spanning 3 1/2 feet wide.

With WW yarn (just under a skein) and a size I crochet hook.

Cluster - 4 DC worked into the same space/stitch
Beg Cluster -Chain 4 ( counts as first DC and chain 1), dc 4 into first ch space, sc into middle of cluster below ----All rows after row 2 will start this way.
End Cluster- sc in middle of last cluster, (cluster, ch 1, dc) in last ch sp    ---- All rows after row 2 will end this way.

r1- Chain 6, in 5th and 6th chains from hook work DC Inc, chain 1, DC into the 6th chain.
r2- Beg Cluster, sc between the increases in previous row (not into the top of the stitch but between stitchs), End Cluster
r3- Beg Cluster, sc into middle of previous cluster (between stitchs), chain 3, End Cluster
R4-Beg Cluster, sc into middle of cluster below, chain 3, sc around the next chain space, ch 3, End Cluster
r5- Beg Cluster, sc into mid of cluster below, chain 3 sc around next ch sp, work cluster into next sc, sc in next ch sp, ch 3, End Cluster
r6-Beg Cluster,  ch 3, sc around next ch sp, cluster in next sc, sc in middle of cluster below, cluster in next sc, sc around next ch sp,  ch 3, end cluster

---- by now you should have one full heart completed--  I will write the directions for up to 3, but its an easy 4 row repeat (rows 3-6)

r7- Beg Cluster, Ch 3, sc around ch sp, ch 3, sc  in mid cluster, ch 3 sc in mid of cluster, ch 3, sc around ch sp, ch 3, end cluster

--This is your foundation row, you should have 5 chain spaces ---

R8- Beg Cluster, ch 3, sc around ch sp, cluster in next sc, sc around ch sp, ch 3, sc around next ch sp, ch 3, sc around next ch sp, cluster in next sc, sc around next ch sp, ch 3, end cluster

---This row forms the bottom of all the hearts so you should have 4 ch sp and 2 clusters----

R9- Beg Cluster, ch 3, sc around ch sp, cluster in next sc, sc in mid of cluster, cluster in next sc, ch 3, sc in next ch sp, ch 3, sc in next ch sp, cluster in next sc, sc in mid of cluster, cluster in next sc, ch 3, sc in next ch sp, ch 3, end cluster

--This should have complete the top of all the hearts (2)---

r10- Beg cluster,  ch 3, sc in ch sp, ch 3, sc in mid cluster, ch 3, sc mid cluster,  ch 3, sc in ch sp, ch 3, sc in mid cluster, ch 3, sc mid cluster, ch 3, sc in ch sp, ch 3, end cluster

For bigger shawls just keep repeating the pattern in rows 9-12.

Added a diagram, as there was some confusion in the written pattern I hope this can help clear it up.  I color coded each row all even rows are blue and odds are black.

Sneak Peak

Here is what I am working on right now.  I am using my dark purple mohair, and making up the pattern as I go.

 At the moment I had to frog a good  5 ft of yarn because the free form work I was doing just wasn't working.

I am hoping I can make 'wings' or cresent shaped parts to add onto the base to make this a wrap that folds over you in front sort of like a hug from an angel.

Currently its about 15 inchs (40cm) wide I think I plan on taking the base circle motif and making it 18in wide then trying to tackle how to make and attach the wrap around parts.

We will see where it goes and I will try my best to keep my notes so I can type them all out later if anyone wants the pattern to make one for themselfs or a friend.

Shawl I want to make!!

I have seen a few pictures floating around facebook/pintrest of a shawl that looks like a phoenix with wings spread .  I know I want to make one.  Sadly I am positive that its knitted and I just dont have the dexterity to knit a project that big. 

So I am going to try and creat a crochet pattern that will mimic the look!!  It will have to wait till  after my birthday.  Probly till after I finish working on my Red Panda as well, I realy should finish that up before moving on to something new right?

I found a great stash of yarn at my local thrift store, it had two balls of  Lanaloft Twilight wool that is is hand spun and painted that is simply gorgeous!  A large ball of mohair that was unlabeled but I have no doubts that is is mohair (smell) its in a rich purple burgundy color I think its what I will use when I start the shawl pattern.  I love finding yarn that would normally cost me ~$70 to buy and I paid less then $10.  I also keep an eye out for items made in yarn I can re-purpose, I would love to find a grey cashmer shirt that I could unravel (its  something I look for) I would turn it into fingerless gloves that go up to my elbows in a heart beat.

So I have a huge list of things I want to make and out of that only about 20% have patterns the rest are just ideas I would need to write out as I made them up.  How do you all decide what your next project is going to be?

I go by what I have the yarn for and by what is currently inspiring me to pick up a hook.  Which it was the red panda but he is been on the hook for two weeks now and is only a head when he should have been finished by now *sigh*.

Soft shawl, warm shawl, little ball of mohair...

 

I worked on this shawl for about 2 months on and off. I love how it turned out its soft and warm, but the stitch is airy enough I can wear it threw out spring. It spans 6 feet by 2 feet, I love the silver, red, and plum stripes.  

Although I dont think I will want to work with this brand of yarn again unless its given to me as a gift.  This is the Mohair Mountain, in Moulin Rouge that I mentioned in this post, at first I thought it was just the gray and red but as I worked with it its more of a silver/red/plum.  The yarn has no consistency, it has random snarls of fibber that vary in size the largest was about the size of a golf ball, and wobbles between lace weight to worst weight.  The center pull is quiet nice but extremely tangled and since its mohair the tangle's fiber tend to felt together and you need some nice sharp small scissors to sort it out.

I have snuggled up in it to read and watch TV at home, but I haven't had a nice enough night/event to wear it out yet.  I almost wore it on Easter but it got hot out quick so I left it at home.
