Give a Hoot..

I got in a few more orders for Owl hats, sorry I didnt post wip shots.  Two of these hats have already been sent on their way.  Up next is a never ending granny afgan and I will make sure I post WIP shots, but  I cant start it till I get a color change confirmation.  After that will be a Grumpy Cat Hat and a Zebra Hat then I will be on hiatus to give my wrists a break.

Jordan and hats

This past weekend I got the chance to have my neice begrudgingly model the hat's I have been working on for the past week or so. She looked so cute but she thought it was to warm out and kept taking them off. These are some of the best shots I could manage.

Hat season!

Apparently Minions are 'IN' right now.  My sister wants me to make Jordan a girly minion hat.  I bought a pattern for this project, but reading over it I don’t like st count, its done in odd numbers and they have jagged color changes.  So I will be tweaking the patter, just a itty bitty tiny lot. I think I will make the base hat a normal yellow beanie, then add a band for the eye and strap sepratly then add in all the girly details.  It might take longer but I think it will look better then the patter I bought -,-

She also has a friend at work who wants 3 hats, piggie, owl, and a fox!

~~update~~
More hats requested!!  I will also be making a Yoda and Leia!!  I really hope I don't get my hats sizes mixed up I will have to make sure they all are pinned with a note or something.

I have to run out and pick up a few supplies I am short on since I made all those toys I haven't restocked my stash and I am low on a few key colors.

I will be updating this post with my WIP (Works in progress) photos as I get started.

~~~~~~~~SIDE NOTE~~~~~~~~
Also a big thanks to Katie Board I finally got some Kahoot's comfort grips for my hooks! I am pretty sure these are the ones you recommended.  I finally found them at a Hobby Lobby over here but they where well hidden and only had two in stock.  I dont care much for the dark green I wish they had them in the bright purple color shown on the packaging but none the less I hope these help.
 These hat's will be the first projects that I get to use them on.  Extra special thanks to Christine (my sis) who bought them for me!
CON-tamination and Japanese Festival
Left to Right
Snow owl, Dark green Chibi Cthulhu, Penguin, Skel-o-Bunbun, Red CC, strawberry, onigiri, Pink 'LOVE' CC, Girl inYukata, Green CC,
I am gearing up for CON-tamination  a horror and pop culture convention that is this weekend at the  Holiday Inn South County Center.  The nice people over at Animeggroll have a booth at the convention and said they would sell some of my critters for me!  So I will not be there but do look out for Animeggrolls booth they will be bringing a lot of interesting things with them.
Now on to other news!  I might get to consign some items at the Japanese Festival that Missouri Botanical Garden is holding Labor day weekend (Aug 31-Sept 2).   I am going in to speak with them about it on Thursday and taking in the motley crew you see above for examples of my work.   Most of these guys will be going off to the con Friday, and I did not have  any other work on hand to take in so I hope they are not put off by the creepy horror theme of Cthulhu's and Skel-o-Bunbun's.
Snow Owl
 So for a while i have had this idea in my head for a snow owl.  Today I finaly took a break from working on my mohair shrug and made the owl.
I wanted to give it the puffed up plumage they ge t on the chest but I was tripping over stitches nothing seemed to work.  That is till I perfected doing the bullion stitch, well I didn't perfect it per-say but I was able to get 5 near perfect bouillon stitches out after a lot of failures.  I am not 100% happy with the surface crochet I did to make the feathered ear tuffs, but I am not sure what I could have done differently.  I opted out of adding a beak because the black and orange yarns I  have just didn't look right.  I jotted down notes as I was making it so if people are intrested I can write out a pattern for this little guy.
 I also have an other owl project bouncing around in my head.  Helen Rodel made some gorgeous masks and hoods in 2010 as a one off for a fashion show, and I am going to try and figure out a pattern to make a owl hood, I have wanted one since i first laid eyes on it but as she only made the ones for the run way and never published a pattern I will have to work it out from photos and a lot of hard crochet.  I just need the motivation, and well a stash of yarn before I can start working out a pattern for a owl hood inspired by owls and Helen Rodels work.  Since I am the queen of procrastination dont expect it from me any time soon, I probly wont start on it till I find the right fiberus yarn to inspire me.  Maybe a cream or off white shade of alpaca.....
